STATION 16.3
Engineering Strain Scanning and High Resolution Single Crystal Diffraction
Description
- high-resolution single-crystal diffraction
- engineering strain scanning in monochromatic or white-beam mode
- magnetic scattering
Technical Description
Station 16.3 is a high resolution facility situated on the centre of the 6 Tesla wiggler fan where it takes the highest energy radiation available on the SRS. The range of energies available at the Station is between 5-80keV.
Development
A single-bounce focusing Laue monochromator, operating between 45-75keV.
Proposed Development
- upgrade of the focusing monochromator to a tunable double-bounce system
- installation of a CCD detector
Benchmarks
The turn around time for individual experiments depends on the mode selected. However, a rough guide for a typical white-beam experiment for studying two samples would be two days which includes the setting-up time.
Monochromatic experiments can take longer (depending on the type and number of samples).
