£25.7 million for Daresbury's Science Park
The Northwest Development Agency (NWDA) announced today that they are investing £25.7 million in order to develop a science park at Daresbury Laboratory, providing a direct link from the Laboratory’s research to industry.
Mike Shields, Chief Executive of the Northwest Development Agency (NWDA), stressed the importance of the announcement:
“The Science Park will begin the important job of linking the science at Daresbury with industry in a direct and effective way. In the medium-term, we intend to see Daresbury developed as a mixed-use science campus – providing fundamental research and development funded by the Government and the private sector, and research by local universities. We are now well on the way to achieving this.”
Sir Tom McKillop, Chair of the North-West Science Council and Chief Executive of Astra Zeneca, also endorsed the plans:
“This is great news for the North West which has placed science and technology at the heart of its economic planning for the region."
