| The X-ray hutch must be evacuated, searched and locked before the station shutter is opened - allowing beam into the hutch. | Radiation levels inside the hutch are deadly with the beam on. The hutch search is designed so a single responsible person can perform an evacuation and personnel search of the hutch before the station shutter is opened. | Only authorised people should perform the search. | |||
| After the search, when the hutch is locked, the station shutter can be opened, beam will enter the hutch and data collection can begin. | |||||
| If you find yourself locked inside the hutch at any time, you must evacuate immediately by pushing the crash plate on the back of the door. |
In an emergency, use the yellow buttons to dump the beam.

| Instruct everybody to leave the hutch. When the last person has left, rotate the START SEARCH swich to ON . |

| Present your ID card to the PROXIMITY SWITCH.
A beeper will start inside the hutch. This noise is an audible warning that the hutch is being searched. |

| Go inside the hutch, take care to ensure that you are the only person inside the hutch. Only when you are sure you are alone in the hutch should you press SEARCH BUTTON A. |

| Leave the hutch, close the door and press the SEARCH COMPLETE button on the search panel. The hutch door will lock. |

| The beeping noise will stop, and the light inside the
hutch will turn blue. The blue light is a warning that
the hutch is locked. Ensure the lock has engaged
properly and the door is secure.
After a few seconds the light inside the hutch will return to normal, indicating the search is completed and the station shutter can be opened (see next). |

| Using the mousball and the mousebutton closest to the wall, select the element W14.STOP.03 (the station shutter) by double clicking it on the beamline synoptic diagram (in the bottom right-hand quadrant of the diagram). | ![]() |
| Use the reset and open buttons, on the control window, to open the shutter. | ![]() |
| Rotate the START SEARCH switch to OFF. This will automatically close the station shutter and release the bolt on the hutch door. Use the Geiger counter (see next) to check that the hutch is safe to enter. | ![]() |

| Switch the control knob to bat, and check the battery is charged. |
