- April 2006
Station staff changes
Station Manager - Mark Ellis
(3830)
Deputy Station Manager - Mike Cianci (3658)
- April 2003
PXGEN++ released
New software for beam alignment
and data
collection .
- October 2002
To help us improve the provision of anomalous dispersion experiments
on station 14.2, please provide feedback on your experiences with the
MAD/SAD facilities there. You should include brief details of structures
solved, publications, any problems encountered and suggestions for
improvements. Send your comments to James Nicholson .
List of 14.2 publications
now available.
- August 2002
SOLVE. Details of how to run SOLVE (including command files) on
your MAD data are available here .
- April 2002
Improved Fluorescence Software The xafs program has been updated
to include a drop-down menu of elements to be scanned. When an element
is selected, the corresponding monochromator angle range for the scan
will be automatically generated.
The mono software (for changing the
wavelength) now features progress bars, to provide a clearer visual
indicator whether the monochromator and/or two-theta arm are moving.
- February 2002
HKL2000 can be run on the station data processing alpha using the
command hkl2000 SRS14.2-ADSC-corr.
User Beam : The station is
now operating normally with scheduled users. There are now 2 SRS refills
per 24 hours, at 08:30 and 20:30.
MAD : Click here for a
list of accessible absorption edges on 14.2 and a guide on how to
collect fluorescence spectra.
Webcams : Four webcams are
now installed in the 14.2 hutch as part of the remote monitoring
project.
Beam Centre : 94.7, 93.0.
- November 2001 - Commissioning
Following the enforced 4
month shutdown, SRS user beam was established on 15th November 2001. For
the first week there will be 3 refills per day. Station commissioning
and benchmarking will continue until 26th November when the first users
on 14.2 for this period are due. It is anticipated by then that there
will be 2 refills per day.
There is a new user area available to PX users up the stairs opposite
14.2. This area includes a computer room, kitchen and toilet. The
computer room has an alpha workststion linked to the station data disks
and a PC with CD writer. For further information and directions to the
new area ask your station scientist.
- June 2001 - Staff Changes
James Nicholson became station
manager of 14.2 from 1st June 2001. Liz Duke is now deputy station
manager. Both James and Liz, together with Pierre Rizkallah will be
providing the user support on 14.2.
MAD
Se-met MAD experiments are now becoming routine on
14.2. There are some new web pages on how to perform fluorescence scans
available here.
- May 2001 - MAD Commissioning
The Se-Met MAD capabilities
have been successfully tested on 14.2. One MAD experiment was attempted
in early April 2001 but problems with the SRS meant that it could not be
completed. A second MAD experiment was successfully performed in late
April by a group from NIMR. Four wavelengths were collected around the
Se K-edge and four Se sites were resolved. The structure was solved to a
resolution of 2.9 Å. Click here for
further details.
- March 2001 - Opening the station shutter
Stations 14.2
& 14.1 have a different method of shutter control to the other PX
stations. The shutter is controlled via a flat screen situated on the
wall to the left of the hutch. When booted the Pc automatically comes up
with 2 windows entitled 'Beamline 14.2' and Status and
Interlock Monitor'. The 'Beamline 14.2' window shows a diagram of
the beamline with all the valves, ion pumps, gauges, mirror, slits and
mono etc. At the bottom right hand side of this W14.STOP.03
should be highlighted in red. Double clicking on this will create the
'Status and Interlock Monitor' window for W14.STOP.03. This shows the
status of the shutter at the top and a list of the interlocks etc.
below. At the bottom there is a control panel. Here, once the hutch has
been interlocked, you should click on Reset and then Open.
In addition after every refil you will need to open W14.STOP.01.
This is situated towards the top of the diagram of the beamline layout.
Double click on the W14.STOP.01 which should create an "Status
and Interlock" window for W14.STOP.01. Click on reset followed by open.
Station 14.1 also has access to this stop so the users on Station 14.1
may have already opened it for you.
