Abstract

The Daresbury Laboratory Laue Software Suite is a set of programs developed for the processing of Laue X-ray diffraction data. The Laue method using polychromatic radiation poses a number of problems which are not present in data collected using monochromatic methods. These include the requirement to determine a wavelength normalisation curve, the presence of spots which are exactly superposed multiple reflections (harmonics), the occurrence of spatially overlapping spots (especially for large unit cells) and the wavelength dependence of film to film scaling factors where film packs are used. The original suite was designed to be run on standard terminals supporting T4010 graphics. More recently, X-windows based code has been developed for the initial stages of the data processing. The programs in the suite carry out the processing stages required from scanned images to a merged set of integrated intensities. An overview of the suite indicates the main processing stages and the programs used.

Programs Available

The suite comprises the following programs:- Utilities: Laue Specific Libraries: A set of programs for handling gnomonic projections is also available.

Documentation

There is an Overview Document available and also a separate Processing Flow Chart to act as starting points for investigating the suite. Each program (see above) has its own documentation.

News and Updates

An updates file gives details of all recent updates made to the Laue suite and also some recent items of news concerning the suite.

Test Data

Sets of test data are also available with the suite. Some standard tests are provided to check out the programs and to assist the user in learning how to use the programs.

Availability

The program suite is installed on the Protein Crystallography Village computer 'dlpx1'. The suite is maintained and distributed from the Daresbury Laboratory and is currently licenced free to academic users

See the Laue suite installation notes for for details on the conditions of distribution and how to obtain a copy of the suite.

Contact

Following John Campbell's retirement, Quan Hao (qh22@cornell.edu) has agreed to take responsibility for the suite.
