Crystallography of Complexes
We cordially invite you to participate in this year's Study Weekend at the University of Leeds. The annual CCP4 Study Weekend is a chance to shake off the post-New Year torpor, and work hard and play hard with your fellow crystallographers. Once again, we have put together an exciting scientific programme for Friday and Saturday, either side of the traditional conference dinner. Please also check out the satellite meetings which may be of interest. The Study Weekend is a chance to catch up with old friends, but is also a chance to meet the CCP4 staff who will be there in force to demonstrate the latest software and to answer questions - please say hello!
The first CCP4 Study Weekend was held at Daresbury Laboratory in November 1980, and covered Refinement of Protein Structures. The meeting was held on a Saturday and Sunday! After a short hiatus, the CCP4 Study Weekend became an annual event. In 1992, the meeting became too large to be held comfortably at Daresbury Laboratory, and moved down the road to the Lord Daresbury hotel. In 1994, the meeting moved to Chester College, and in 1997 moved on to the university sector beginning with York University. These moves reflected the increasing popularity of the CCP4 Study Weekend, and nowadays the Study Weekend attracts a strong list of distinguished international speakers and over 400 participants.
This year, the topic is "Crystallography of Complexes" and considers complexes between proteins, between proteins and nucleic acids, and between proteins and small molecules. Topics covered include preparation and characterisation of complexes for crystallization, specialist techniques for controlling the formation of complexes, molecular replacement with multiple proteins in the asymmetric unit, fitting and refinement of small molecule compounds, and bioinformatics tools for complexes. In keeping with previous CCP4 meetings, the lectures will focus on the presentation and discussion of advanced methods and techniques developed and used by the leaders in the field.
